The statement by the Most candidate about inflation being one of the highest or the highest is incorrect.

Tomislav Krasnec, a correspondent for Večernji list from Brussels, talked in the Večernji list studio on May 17 with representatives of the five most popular political parties in Croatia. Karlo Ressler (HDZ), Predrag Fred Matić (SDP), Božo Petrov (Most), Stephen Nikola Bartulica (Domovinski pokret), and Gordan Bosanac (Možemo!) discussed the first ten years of Croatia’s membership in the European Union and the green transition and Green Deal.

Most’s candidate, Božo Petrov, stated: “Inflation in Croatia is one of the highest or the highest inflation rate in the European Union – in the Eurozone.” (Source: Večernji tv: debate, 42:49 minutes)

We investigated the statement and it is INCORRECT.

According to Eurostat, in April 2024, inflation in Croatia was 4.7%, making it one of the countries with higher inflation in the Eurozone, but not the highest. In the same period, Romania recorded an inflation rate of 6.2%, and Belgium 4.9%.
