The fact-checking process involves identifying suspicious statements and data, in general, content that requires further verification.

The new digital era has enabled the fast and easy flow of information. With just a few clicks on your smart device, you can access information from all over the world. Digital technology has improved many aspects of society, but it has also led to the more frequent creation and sharing of false information, disinformation, and other deceptive and manipulative content. The boundaries between truth and lies are more often blurred, and media organizations are focusing their efforts on fact-checking, identifying disinformation, and combating such content.

In 2020, 220 agencies and journalistic organizations across 78 countries were registered to engage in fact-checking.
