Conspiracy theories blur the lines of truth, deceive individuals, and hinder the establishment of democracy and a healthy society.

Conspiracy theories are complex, unfounded beliefs and ideas that certain processes and events are secretly controlled by a group of wealthy and powerful individuals. During times of crisis, uncertainty, or various social changes, conspiracy theories begin to spread rapidly, offering individuals “explanations” and “security.” These theories promote the dissemination of misinformation and fake news, distrust in institutions, and violent and aggressive behavior.

Continuous verification of available information, data, and content allows for the sharing of only truthful and verified news. Additionally, developing and raising awareness about media and digital literacy competencies, as well as the importance of critical thinking, is essential in an era where misinformation, fake news, and conspiracy theories are uncontrollably spreading in public and media spaces.

Checking the sources of information and its credibility helps in identifying fake news, conspiracy theories, and manipulative and deceptive content from truthful and verified information.
